Abstract
Background: The CPC (Clinico-Pathological Conference) club started as an extracurricular activity to analyze CPC reports published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). Since the original CPC report was too difficult for either freshmen or sophomores to understand the content because they have no medical background knowledge. Purpose: To facilitate the participation of junior students (freshmen as well as sophomores) in the club activity, a new system, "roof tile method" (A) was introduced. Methods: The roof tile method was implemented to facilitate participation of junior members in CPC club activities, where senior students (year 3~6 students) give lessons to junior students. As the club activities expand nation-widely (B). Results: (A) Junior members find the club activity very appealing. This has brought good reputation along with an increase in club membership. (B) Due to these achievements, the CPC club received awards at several nationwide competitions including national championship. Conclusions: This CPC club has been developing further by students' self-directed activities.
