Abstract

As Taiwan's first medical school established in the late nineteenth century, the National Taiwan University College of Medicine (NTUCM) has played a leading role in navigating healthcare transitions and addressing challenges in medical education. Ongoing education and training are needed to ensure that physicians and healthcare professionals can adapt to meet the changing needs of society in light of the continuous change, the complexity of the medical environment, and the advancement of medical specialties. The Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Bioethics at NTUCM was established in 2014 through the merger and joint eff orts of the Department of Primary Care Medicine (established in 2000) and the Department of Social Medicine (established in 1994) led by the Deans and educational leaders. During the first ten years, the Graduate Institute established a master's program to cultivate clinical educators and researchers in the broader fields of medical education and bioethics, drawing on a century of heritage and the collaborative eff orts of NTUCM's faculty and alumni along with teachers from various departments and disciplines. In the future, the Graduate Institute in collaboration with colleagues at NTU will work together to achieve excellence in teaching and learning, endeavoring to become a leading hub for physicians and healthcare professionals.
